Talking of Caravaggio, i wonder when we’ll be able to interact with holographic replicas?
Heliodisplay is a product of “io2technology” and it’s definitely worth checking out.
Floating images look neat but there’s a huge disadvantage of projection on a thin layer of air.
Don’t sneeze!! or i’ll shoot!

Even in his own lifetime Caravaggio was considered enigmatic, fascinating, rebellious and dangerous. He burst upon the Rome art scene in 1600, and thereafter never lacked for commissions or patrons, yet handled his success atrociously. An early published notice on him, dating from 1604 and describing his lifestyle some three years previously, tells how “after a fortnight’s work he will swagger about for a month or two with a sword at his side and a servant following him, from one ball-court to the next, ever ready to engage in a fight or an argument, so that it is most awkward to get along with him.

Living 400 years ago in the time of the counter reformation; in the time of Shakespeare; Caravaggio staged scenes with lighting that inspires modern film directors.

Having lived with high quality images and movies; it is difficult for us to conceive the effect his realism had in its days. Every one of his works raised a scandal; and each one haunts us with intrigue even today.

I discovered Caravaggio once again while i was reading the The story of Art book. Consider it was back in 1600’s and there were no projection devices… Look at the paintings again… Unbelievable!

I decided to dig in through art so i got this book called “The Story of Art” which was our main class book of History of Art back in the university years. I need to examine history of art once again for a project i have in mind. Even if i can’t find the chance to come up with this project, this book already fascinates me and clears my mind…

Wikipedia says:

First published in 1950, it is widely regarded both as a seminal work of criticism, and as one of the most accessible introductions to the visual arts. It has sold over six million copies to become the best selling art book of all time. It is currently in its 16th edition and has been translated into approximately 30 languages.

My favorite animation artist. I need to say that i admire Miyazaki for his “state of mind” and the technic as second reason.

Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎 駿, Miyazaki Hayao) (born January 5, 1941 in Tokyo, Japan) is the prominent director of many popular animated feature films. He is also the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, an animation studio and production company.

He remained largely unknown to the West, outside of animation communities, until Miramax released his 1997 Princess Mononoke. By that time, his films had already enjoyed both commercial and critical success in Japan and East Asia. Miyazaki’s 2001 Spirited Away is the highest-grossing film of all time in Japan; Princess Mononoke had also briefly retained that distinction.

Miyazaki’s films often incorporate common themes, such as humanity’s relationship to nature and technology, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. The protagonists of his films are often strong, independent girls or young women; the villains, when present, are often morally ambiguous characters with redeeming qualities.

Miyazaki’s films have generally been financially successful, and this success has invited comparisons with American animator Walt Disney. However, Miyazaki does not see himself as a person building an animation empire, but as an animator fortunate enough to have been able to make films with complete creative control. In 2006, Time Magazine voted Miyazaki one of the most influential Asians of the past 60 years.[1]

Anime directed by Miyazaki that have won the Animage Anime Grand Prix award have been Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in 1984, Castle in the Sky in 1986, My Neighbor Totoro in 1988, and Kiki’s Delivery Service in 1989.
